About the scent
Opens like an espresso martini: strong coffee with a splash of rum. Then it settles into chocolate, toasted hazelnut and vanilla with benzoin (a warm resin that smells of caramel). For evenings, bars and the cold season. The coffee bows out earlier than hoped, so fans of bitter espresso should start with a decant.
Notes
Notes are what you smell in the scent. The top ones come first, the heart follows, the base stays with you the longest. The number next to a note is how many fragrances in the catalogue have it.
Top notes. The first 15–30 minutes after you put it on: what you smell straight away.
Heart notes. Opens up after about half an hour and stays for a few hours: the character of the scent.
- Cacao· 4. Cocoa beans and cocoa powder. Dry, slightly bitter chocolate, not sweet.
- Hazelnut· 2. Roasted hazelnut: creamy and buttery, a little toasty, like praline or a nut spread.
Base notes. Stays the longest, until the end of the day: what you later notice on your clothes and scarf.
- Vanilla· 46. Pods of the vanilla orchid. Warm sweetness; in niche perfumes it comes with smoke and wood rather than smelling of cake.
- Benzoin· 13. A resin from trees of Southeast Asia. Warm vanilla with a hint of caramel.
