About the scent
Opens like a warm paper bag from the bakery, then fir balsam (a resinous, slightly smoky forest note) and powdery vanilla take over. Sweet like a bun, not like candy. For cold days and cosy evenings. Divisive: some catch a syrupy, almost savoury edge, so it is worth trying on skin first.
Notes
Notes are what you smell in the scent. The top ones come first, the heart follows, the base stays with you the longest. The number next to a note is how many fragrances in the catalogue have it.
Top notes. The first 15–30 minutes after you put it on: what you smell straight away.
- . A soft French bun made with butter and eggs. Buttery, golden and a little sweet, like warm pastry fresh from the oven.
- Bergamot· 24. An Italian citrus. Lemon peel and Earl Grey tea: bright and a little bitter.
- Freesia· 4. A small spring flower from South Africa. Light and clean, a little sweet and peppery.
Heart notes. Opens up after about half an hour and stays for a few hours: the character of the scent.
- Heliotrope· 6. Small purple flowers whose scent perfumers recreate. Powdery almond and vanilla, like marzipan or cherry pie.
- Fir resin· 4. Resin of the fir tree. Smells of a conifer forest: balsamic and slightly sweet, like a Christmas tree.
Base notes. Stays the longest, until the end of the day: what you later notice on your clothes and scarf.
- Benzoin· 13. A resin from trees of Southeast Asia. Warm vanilla with a hint of caramel.
- Vanilla· 46. Pods of the vanilla orchid. Warm sweetness; in niche perfumes it comes with smoke and wood rather than smelling of cake.
- Praline· 7. Caramelised sugar and roasted nuts, like the filling of a chocolate.
